چکیده

Abstract Two studies determined the interactions of urea inclusion to a dried distillers grains plus solubles (DDGS; 29.4% CP, 5.48% ether extract) supplement fed at 2 amounts and frequencies steers consuming ad libitum Smooth Bromegrass hay (6.8% CP). In Exp. 1, 120 (247 kg; SD = 20) were individually for 84 d with treatments arranged in x factorial. Supplement was every day (D) or 3x/week (ALT), amount 6.36 kg/week (LO) 12.73 (HI) contained either no (-U) 1.3% (+U). 2, 8 ruminally cannulated (310 25) used an 6 row-column design 6, 14-d periods. Treatment same as except that rate 0.4% 0.8% BW daily other (ALT). ADG 0.30 kg/d greater, DMI reduced by 0.39 HI vs. LO (P < 0.01). Hay 0.54 ALT D also Rumen pH decreased on feeding 0.01) LO. A reduction situ NDF disappearance observed received between However, there difference digestibility > 0.05). Urea had effect digestion ADG, suggesting RDP not deficient. Dried can be supplemented infrequently without reducing animal performance.

Effects of nitrogen fertilization and dried distillers grains supplementation: forage use and performance of yearling steers.

In a 3-yr study, corn dried distillers grains plus solubles (DDGS) were evaluated as a substitute for forage and N fertilizer in yearling steers grazing smooth bromegrass. A total of 135 steers (330 +/- 10 kg) were used in a randomized complete block design to measure the effects of DDGS supplementation and N fertilization on animal and pasture performance. Steers were initially stocked at 6.8 ...

Value of Dry Distillers Grains in High-Forage Diets and Effect of Supplementation Frequency

1 Dry distillers grains improved gain and efficienicy relative to corn. Heifers supplemented daily consumed more hay and gained faster, but were not more efficient than those supplemented three times weekly. Summary An experiment was conducted with 120 crossbred heifers to determine the value of dry distillers grains (DDG) in high-forage diets, and to evaluate the effect of supplementing daily ...

Effect of distillers grains or corn supplementation frequency on forage intake and digestibility.

Ten ruminally cannulated heifers (BW = 416 kg; SD = 24) were used to test the effect of the form and frequency of supplemental energy on forage DMI and digestibility. Five treatments were arranged in a replicated, 5 x 4 Latin rectangle (n = 8), and included no supplement (control), dry-rolled corn (DRC) fed daily, DRC fed on alternate days (DRC-A), dried distillers grains plus solubles (DDGS) f...

Effect of frequency and amount of rumen-degradable intake protein supplementation on urea kinetics and microbial use of recycled urea in steers consuming low-quality forage.

We evaluated the effect of frequency and amount of rumen-degradable intake protein (DIP) on urea kinetics in steers consuming prairie hay. Five ruminally and duodenally fistulated steers (366 kg of BW) were used in a 5 x 5 Latin square and provided ad libitum access to low-quality prairie hay (4.7% CP). Casein was provided daily in amounts of 61 and 183 mg of N/kg of BW (61/d and 183/d) and eve...
